Before you spend real money on lime, sulfur, or any amendment, confirm that reading with a lab soil test. A lab report costs a little. A wrong amendment costs a lot. Lime can take up to two years to fully work, and over-liming sandy soil causes its own problems down the road.
Timing matters too, because a single reading can mislead you. Soil pH shifts with the season as salt levels change. In sandy ground that swing can top 1.0 pH unit from winter to late spring. Test at the same time each year so your readings stay easy to compare. One number in spring and one in fall can tell two different stories about the same bed.
